SVUSD Photo III - San Juan Capistrano Mission

This is a collection of pictures taken at the San Juan Capistrano Mission. The goal was to take pictures that were "...not typical tourist pictures." The first problem I had with that was answering the question, "What does the typical tourist shoot." I decided that 'typical tourist" shoot would be wide panaramics that tried to take in the Mission a good deal of the mission at once. Therefore, I tried to focus on smaller detail shoots or shoots with a notable foreground/background change.

  • (Selection 1 of 4) I wanted to be sure to carry the depth of field. So I chose a small apreture and used a tripod. No photoshop work was done on this one.
  • (Selection 2 of 4) The colors in the tree were good in this one but I decided that I was more interested in making it look like a old picture. The effect was LightRoom's 'Aged Photo'.
  • (Selection 3 of 4) This picture was done by mixing two different exposures together. The fountain was f/16 1/5 and the brick in the arch was f/16 3/1 sec. I pasted one copy onto of the other and used a layer mask to select the portion of the brick to let show.
  • (Selection 4 of 4) I think I liked this picture better since I had cropped out the wood structure that would ahve been in the foreground.
  • I like how deep the blue color was in this. I felt this view of the wall really have a sense of losse for the missing portion.
  • It took me a while to decide just what angle to shoot this stairs.
  • This picture seemed to be the best one that gave a feeling of age.
  • The one thing I didn't like about this picture was the dark tunnel look caused by the end being in such deep shadow. Other then that I was happy with it.
  • The is the same walkway as a previous picture, however in this one I included the arch to give it more depth.
  • This picture was given an aged look by using Lightroom.
  • You could just see a monk sitting her. I later commented to my wife that I should have brought somebody along in costume to place in the picture.
  • I always like getting up close. I love to try to find the small details that get lost in pictures that take in a larger scene.
  • I think that what this shoot needed was a longer telephoto lenese so that the fountain was pulled forward. Unfortunately there was no more room to walk back away from the door.
  • One of the kilns.
  • This picture has been color corrected. I'm not sure that we aren't just used to seeing a color cast and that by correcting it in this picture is kind of makes it look wrong.
  • This picture was not color corrected as the a previous one had been.
  • Untitled photo
  • I was suprised to see the wire mesh over the brick after downloading this picture from my camera.
  • I like the architectual bit above the door. However I don't feel I captured it well.
  • I have been having fun photographing windows.
